2008 has been proclaimed by the European Commission as the European year of intercultural communication.

The Centre for Intercultural Cooperation and Communications (ZIKK) has received in 2008 The Liberty Foundation Award for 2008 for successes in assistance to mutual understanding of cultures and intercultural communications.
